Why Not Plain Green Tea?

I love green tea. I love chilly bottled drinks. So why don’t I buy more bottled green tea?

Because no one seems to be selling it, that’s why. The SoBe people have two green teas: one loaded with sugar (better than high fructose corn syrup, but still — so much sugar!) and the other laced with artificial sweeteners.

Lipton sells bottled green tea — but insists on mixing it with harsh, artificial fruit flavors (bitter peach or scalding citrus) and hundreds of calories’ worth of high fructose corn syrup and/or aspertame. Yuk!

Why doesn’t someone, somewhere sell bottles of simple, unflavored, unsweetened green tea?

  • Honest Tea sells a green tea very lightly sweetened with honey. Lots of other varieties as well. Maybe you could get them at Whole Foods or your locally owned natural foods store? They are a little higher price, but the taste is worth it to me.

  • I’ve often asked myself the same question. I often seem to find myself standing in front of the bottled drinks looking, looking, looking… and walking away with plain water. (Of course, I pick up chocolate on the way out the door, but that’s something else again!)
