Fortune-telling shouldn't harm anyone. I try to open their eyes to possibilities and choices they could have and I advise them they should decide based on logic and reason. - Nazanin, Iranian Fortune Teller
It seems fortune telling is becoming quite common in Iran and it's popularity is attributed to the country's isolation and economic worries. Click here to read the full story.
I lived in Turkey for a couple of years and found reading coffee grounds is quite popular. After you drink the small, very strong, thick cup of Turkish coffee, the cup is turned upside down in the saucer and left to sit for a few minutes. The reader turns the cup over and looks at the pattern of lines made from the coffee grounds running down the side of the cup. It's not unusual to meet a woman who professes to be able to read the coffee grounds, and it's a common practice when housewives get together. My problem was I couldn't drink the coffee...it was way to bitter for my taste.
I was able to find one deck published in Iran called the Fall Nameh-e-Hafez. Interesting....
