A word to the wise

Here's a bit of wise advice for Tarot readers from one of those tea bag tags:

"Let your heart speak to others' hearts."

That's what it's all about.

Have a wonderful holiday season, everyone!

Blessings,

Tarot Inspiration Point - Poetry Corner

Ti The Tarot inspires people in many different ways.  It challenges us to be creative, intuitive and expressive.

The great thing about being a Tarot enthusiast in this day and time is anyone can express and share their muse and inspirations through the Internet.  A creative spirit no longer has to be a published author, artist or poet to get a bit of well deserved recognition.

Consider this poem written by Helen Howell (aka Bella), a massage therapist from Australia.

The Trouble with Tarotscopes

Tarotscopes-1Merinews, an English-language news service based in India, offers readers a Weekly Tarot Forecast.

Mimicking the "Tarotscopes" seen on other sites, the Weekly Tarot Forecast author pulls a card for each sun sign, then uses that card as the basis for a weekly prediction. (My week is supposed to feature ambition, temptation, and addiction -- which, in turn, is supposed to "bring me out of my shell." Gulp.)

A glance at the various Tarotscope sites reveals what, for me, is a real problem with Tarotscopes: since every author pulls a random card for each sun sign, a dozen different Tarotscope sites will offer a dozen different (and often conflicting) commentaries on my week. How helpful can that possibly be?

So ... what do you think about Tarotscopes? In terms of legitimacy, how do they compare to horoscopes? How likely is it that one reader's one-card reading can apply to everyone born under a specific sun sign? To what extent is Tarot a personal oracle (with readings intended for application to one person's life) versus a public oracle (capable of addressing, say, the future of one-twelfth of the population at once)?

Foolish ... or Not?

LittlefoolAccording to his biography, "at age 29, artist Jerry Wennstrom destroyed all of his work, gave away all of his possessions, and set about living a deliberately simple and profoundly spiritual life."

During a recent radio interview, the host compared Jerry's decision to the archetypal energy of the Tarot Fool, stepping off his cliff and plunging into the abyss. In this article on MythicImagination.org, Jerry disagrees.

Active Meditation

Meditation can be a useful tool for humans to connect with their higher selves, tap into the elusive undertones of daily living that may escape the conscious naked eye and, to uncover the most profound wisdom of the Universe. The suggestion of meditation to someone who has difficulty concentrating or processing information in a *normal* way can leave some of us extremely frustrated.
I've found that by being physically active during the meditation, those of us with attention deficit can benefit tremendously.

Tarot Discovery Kit by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber (Review)

Tarot_discovery_kit"Meditating on the Tarot is a process of self-revelation, of opening the heart and mind to what is meaningful in the present moment. These meditations lead to deeper insights and take you closer to the experience of your divine self and that greater, wiser part of your inner being. Consult the cards as an everyday spiritual practice or whenever you need clarity on an issue." - Monte Farber and Amy Zerner

For almost 30 years, fabric artist Amy Zerner and author/psychic Monte Farber have combined their deep love for each other with their fascination for self-discovery, resulting in oracles, books, art, and decks that are as beautiful as they are immediately useful.

In what is, to my knowledge, the only DVD Tarot kit on the market, The Tarot Discovery Kit offers a multi-media extravaganza, combining original music, animated art, melodic voice talents, and concise--yet profound--meditative insights on the Tarot. For this box set, The Enchanted Couple have included a DVD jam-packed with goodies, a full-color 60-page guidebook, gold satin drawstring bag and their 78-card Zerner/Farber Tarot deck.

A Channeler's Tarot

The entire universe is a great theater of mirrors, a set of hieroglyphics to decipher; everything is a sign, everything harbors and manifests mystery.

Antoine Faivre and Jacob Needleman. Modern Esoteric Spirituality (SCM, 1992)

Think of the universe as the most complete and still expanding book of knowledge that exists, the largest Tarot pack.  It is living knowledge.  Pagans, neo-pagans, shamans the world over, and ceremonial magicians acknowledge the unifying spirit within and behind all things.  We seek to enhance our abilities to perceive as well as communicate and cooperate with Spirit in all its myriad forms.

Reflecting the Patterns of Life

The other day, Gav asked a series of questions on Comparative Tarot about how we use tarot. One of them was what role tarot plays in our spiritual practice. Being an agnostic, this is an interesting question for me, as I am open to exploring all things but reserve judgment on how things actually work :) Still, I have a personal story to tell that I think illustrates the value of tarot on a very fundamental level, and I hope you will find it illuminating.

The Tarot Discovery Kit

Tarot_discovery_kit_2 Creating divination tools as accessible as they are beautiful, famed artist/author team Amy Zerner and Monte Farber are coming out with a brand new gift to the world of Tarot.

The Tarot Discovery Kit, which Amy tells me is coming out in April 2007, contains much more than the usual deck and companion book. The elegantly illustrated 78-card Zerner/Farber deck arrives nestled in a satin pouch and there is a 60-page, full-color guidebook; as always, Amy provides the stunning artwork, while Monte contributes his witty, oh-so-true insights.

However, what makes The Tarot Discovery Kit different from the typical deck/book set is the Tarot Discovery DVD. Yes, you read right...a DVD! You'll see captivating animated presentations of all the cards, created from artist Amy Zerner’s intricate fabric collages, and you'll be able to listen to soothing original music with more than two hours of inspiring guided meditation.

Belly Dancers, Yoga, and Tarot at the Unity Church in Chicago

CircusspiritAn Atlanta pastor once frowned at me for offering a casual Tarot reading in the church Fellowship Hall ... so what would he have to say about the 8:18 Circus of the Spirit at the Unity in Chicago Church?
